Goals for the week:

To review all short vowel sounds.

To continue to compare and combine numbers.

To use number bonds and the counting on strategies to add.

To understand there are different ways to make the same number.

To make addition stories.

To solve a problem where the total number and one part are known.

To use problem solving steps to solve addition problems.

To learn strategies to subtract.

To count back from the higher number, to count up from the lower number to subtract.

To use number bonds for subtraction.

To review sounds and write magic c letters.

To read non-fiction texts.

To identify 3 types of non-fiction texts: literary, resource, and biography.

To compare and contrast non-fiction and fiction texts.

To identify and use text features in non-fiction texts.

To read and make a timeline.

To know that l,s,f. and z are doubled at the end of a short vowel one syllable word.

New word study words this week: unit 9 off, will, miss, you, fizz, pass

To continue to identify the difference between fact and opinions.

To identify the elements of a narrative/fiction story.  Characters, setting, problem, solution.

To identify the features of a non-fiction text.

To read about river rocks.

To write more than one fact In sequential order on the same topic.

To identify the difference between fact and opinion.

To write a fact and an opinion.

To review part and whole relationships for different numbers.

To use number bonds to show part/ whole relationships.

To count on to add, to use number bonds to add, to write and solve addition sentences.

To apply our adding strategies to addition story problems.

To identify equation and sum.

To become familiar with different combinations of the same number.

To identify nouns as person, place and thing.

To identify complete and incomplete sentences.

To know a sentence has a noun and a verb.

To use upper and lower case letters in our sentences as well as punctuation.

To self edit our work.

To continue to identify genres and to read different types of books.

To read and write words from unit 1-7 in the word study units.

Wednesday night: Fluency Folder:  read another story and practice sight words, reading and spelling.

Thursday :  study word study/red words using the spelling menu

To continue working with comparing and combining numbers.

To create number bonds.

To practice addition and problem solving using addition.

To know our math facts for 0, 1 and 2.

To continue to practice words with short a and short i.

To know that C goes with a (cat) and k goes with I (kit).

To know to use ck at the end of a short vowel one syllable word.

To practice writing sentences using uppercase letters and punctuation.

To work independently in our centers and to work in reading groups.

To read and write words in the -at, an, am, as, ad, word families, as well as the –ig, -in, -it,

To be word detectives by finding a word meaning by reading the text carefully.

To learn to stop and jot while reading to check understanding.

To listen to different genres and to identify fiction, non-fiction, and poetry as genres

To identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story.

 We will read How to Make an Apple Pie and find where different countries are on the globe.  This will continue our Social Studies unit on Communities and finding Me on the Map.

To identify four Seasons and write about the Fall.

To use Seesaw in our math and reading centers.  We will begin to save work to our porfolios.

To know that K takes I and E and C takes the other 3 when it comes to spelling.

To know that -ck comes at the end of a short vowel one syllable word.

To complete unit 5 in our project read/word study our new words are: it,his,pack,said, sick, tack, back, kid, cab, of, sack, pack.

Homework :

Monday:  Complete an activity on the READO board

Tuesday:  study math facts all the + 1.

Wednesday:  Fluency Folder, read one story, practice 5 new sight words, and return the next day.

Thursday:  choose any activity from the spelling menu to practice the words for this week.

Friday:  

If you wish to keep READO and spelling menus in your folders so they do not get misplaced that is fine.  Please empty other papers.

Goals for the week:

To review the short vowel a, and to build and read words with a short a

To review writing and counting from 1 to 20.

To launch our Schoolwide reading unit, building a community of readers.

To read many stories about Characters who are reading.

To compare numbers and use math vocabulary to describe same number, more and fewer, greater than and less than.

To discuss things we do at school and to learn about our Daily Five Center routines.

To identify and use complete sentences in our speaking and writing.

To note details in a story, to use them in our pictures and writing.

To identify and discuss story elements in fiction stories.

To know a main character and to identify them using character traits.

To compare and contrast characters in stories

To make connections while reading.

To learn how to ask questions while reading to help us understand.

To learn about our school community and compare it to our town community.

Word study words from units 1-3 (short a sounds): at, am, cat, sat, bat, fat, as , has, can, an, man, had van, sad, to, bad, rag.

Homework: due by Friday! send in pictures or stickers to decorate your child’s reading/writing notebook.  Pictures should be of items that show what they enjoy.  Pictures can be drawn, printed from computer, cut from old magazines or books, or purchased stickers. Send pictures in a small ziplock bag marked with a name.

Homework discussed at back to school night will start next week, this is what it will look like.:

Papers and folders needed will come home next week, when homework begins.

Monday: Complete a square on the reado board.

Tuesday:   Math fact practice, see activities in math folder

Wednesday:  fluency folders

Thursday: Practice spelling and writing short a words from the unit of the week.  You can do this on paper or on a whiteboard or chalkboard, sidewalk chalk.  You can use flash cards or starfall.com.  Whatever works for your family.   I will send a choice board for ideas (next week)

Friday: We will do an assessment most Fridays (during class) using the word study words of the week

Reading log will be sent home next week, log books read each night.

To review what we know about the alphabet and to put words into alphabetical order.

To identify letters as consonants and vowels

To listen to The War between the Consonants and the Vowels.

To write our names using upper case letters only for the first letter.

To identify how many vowels and consonants are in our names.

To discuss how we got our names.

To identify numbers 1-10.

To read and write the numbers 1-10 as numbers, words, and pictures.

To compare numbers using greater than and less than, and to understand the meaning of same.

To play compare with a partner.

To learn about the importance of being kind.

To read Have You Filled a Bucket Today? 

Homework:

Tell your child how you chose their name!

Read each night and get to bed on time.
