Happy New Year!  I hope you all enjoyed your family time over the break.

Goals for the week:

To review all short and long vowel sounds.

To continue practicing addition and subtraction.

To continue to use number bonds.

To identify place value and to count, compare and add numbers to 20.

To read words with consonant clusters, three consonants blended together.

To read and identify words with one and two syllables

To review how to divide syllables.

To identify and use descriptive words.

To identify details in a story.

To retell a story.

To listen and respond to Snowmen at Night as well as some other snowmen and snow stories.

To welcome the New Year by making New Year resolutions.

To write about the fun we had over our winter break.

To have fun with the winter season by doing lots of winter activities and writing.

 

The office may send a message to you to repurchase supplies from the beginning of the year list.  You only need to replenish supplies that your child needs.  Please ask them.  Pencils, glue and crayons is what is mostly needed.

Homework :

Monday: no school

Tuesday: study your math facts. ( All addition and subtraction 1-5)

Wednesday: Fluency Folder (if you keep yours at home please return this week for some new stories)

Thursday:  to study word study words unit 16

Mrs. Besselman’s Bulletin                                Week before Break

To enjoy some wonderful holiday concerts with performances by our 3-5^th grade.

To enjoy some holiday stories, read by our 5^th grade students.

To continue to focus on the differences between Fiction and Non-Fiction stories.

To continue to learn about story elements that help us retell fiction.

To review all the rules we have learned so far in units 1-15. 

To listen to The Polar Express and to have fun at our own Polar Express.

To write a narrative about what we would do if we were Elves.

To identify character traits and use them in our Elf writing.

To make gifts for special people.

To learn more about holidays celebrated around the world.

To write a holiday “How To”, such as How to decorate a tree, how to bake cookies, etc.

To identify and use ordinal numbers and positions.

Homework:

Monday: Flannel day.  Today is our class party.  Parents are invited!  Starts at 12:30 in Room 16.

Tuesday:  Wear Blue and white if you have it.

Wednesday: Wear White/Green

Fluency folder will come home, please keep it home for Break so your child can practice all our stories so farJ (Optional of course)

Thursday: Wear holiday accessories!

Friday: Today is our Polar Express!!  Wear your Pajamas.

To identify plane and solid shapes.

To describe characteristics of plane and solid shapes.

To identify, extend, and create patterns using plane and solid shapes.

To begin to learn to identify and use ordinal numbers.

To identify and use descriptive words.

To identify details in a story.

To retell a story.

To write a narrative with a beginning, middle, and end.
