Goals for the week:

To write more than one fact In sequential order on the same topic.

To learn about Christopher Columbus.

To identify the difference between fact and opinion.

To write a fact and an opinion.

To review part and whole relationships for different numbers.

To use number bonds to show part/ whole relationships.

To count on to add, to use number bonds to add, to write and solve addition sentences.

To apply our adding strategies to addition story problems.

To identify equation and sum.

To become familiar with different combinations of the same number.

To identify nouns as person, place and thing.

To identify complete and incomplete sentences.

To know a sentence has a noun and a verb.

To use upper and lower case letters in our sentences as well as punctuation.

To self edit our work.

To read and write words from unit 1-7 in the word study units.

To Compare and Contrast characters in a story.

To discuss ways we can be kind to our friends.

To use character traits to identify the main character in the story

To read words with the short vowel o.

To identify the seven continents and find them on the globe.

Homework :

Monday night: Complete an activity from your READO board!

Tuesday night: Practice math facts!   +2.

Wednesday night: Fluency Folder:  read another story and practice sight words, reading and spelling.

Thursday :  study word study/red  words using the spelling menu

Friday: 

 Request and Reminders:

* Empty folders as much as possible each night.

* When sending lunch money put it in an envelope with a name!

To continue to count and write 1-20.

To count forward and backward.

To order numbers.

To practice plus 1 math facts!

To create number bonds using manipualtives and a math balance.

To see the part, part, whole relationship in a number bond.

To identify numbers using greater than and less than symbols.

To combine and compare numbers.

To identify more and fewer.

To read nonfiction and fiction stories about Apples.

To identify facts and opinion.

To write facts and opinions.

To continue our Science Unit, Pebbles, Sand and Silt.

To continue to practice words with short a and short i. 

To identify what makes up a complete sentence and to practice writing sentences.

To work independently in our Daily five centers.

To begin reading groups.

To read and write words with the short vowels a and i.

Word study words your child should know:  at, am, cat, sat, bat, fat, as, has, can, an, man, and the red word, the, had, van, sad, bad, rag in, big, is, have, did, if, it, sit, lit, fit, wig, jig, fig, pig, zig, and the red word to.

To know that K takes I and E and C takes the other 3 when it comes to spelling.

To know that -ck comes at the end of a short vowel one syllable word.

To complete unit 5 in our project read/word study our new words are: it,his,pack,said, sick, tack, back, kid, cab, of, sack, pack.

 

Homework :

Monday:  Complete an activity on the READO board

Tuesday:  study math facts all the + 1.

Wednesday:  Fluency Folder, read one story, practice 5 new sight words, and return the next day.

Thursday:  choose any activity from the spelling menu to practice the words for this week.

Friday:  Please cover the (front and back) cover of the writer’s notebook  with contact paper if possible. Send finished book on Monday.

 

If you wish to keep READO and spelling menus in your folders so they do not get misplaced that is fine.  Please empty other papers.

  I am happy with how the children are settling into our class routines and the full day of school!  Please speak to your child about the importance of listening.

Goals for the week:

To continue to count accurately and write 1-10 using pictures, numbers and words.

To add and subtract by 0

To add fluently by 1 using the next door neighbor strategy.

To order numbers one through ten.

To identify one more and one fewer.

To use number bonds to see the relationships between numbers.

To identify number bonds as part, part, whole.  And to begin to write equations.

To use math vocabulary and symbols to explain greater than and less than.

To learn more about the Constitution on Constitution day.

To read stories about the alphabet and to learn to alphabetize.

To continue to work  other Kevin Henkes characters

To compare and contrast characters between stories.

To make connections with text.

To write a sentence with a subject and predicate.

To write a sentence using uppercase letters and punctuation.

To edit our writing work when finished.

To continue to learn the routines and work for our Daily Five.

To identify rhyming words.

To write with Style.

To continue to practice words with short a. 

To practice reading words with short a and short I word family.

To read and spell unit 1-4 word study words.  (at, am, cat, sat, bat, fat, As, has, can, the, an, man, had, van, sad, to, bad, rag, in, big, have, did, if,)

Homework :  Read every night!

Monday: Complete an activity from your READO board

Tuesday: practice flash cards for all 0’s (plus and minus).

Wednesday: Fluency folders will come home with one story for all.  Read the story to your child and have them read it back to you. Answer the questions.

Thursday: No school today

Over the weekend:   Please decorate your writer’s notebook. I will be sending them home on Wednesday.  They have a label to identify it as the writing notebook.   Collect and print pictures and decorations that will make the book special,(pictures that will inspire your child to write! Animals if they like animals, Barbie if they like Barbie, sports if they sports).  I will also be asking you to cover the books with contact paper over the weekend.  You may want to begin working on collecting pictures and purchasing contact paper this weekend.  Send book back to school on Monday. Even if not finished, we will need them for our work often!!

Goals for the week:

To review the short vowel a, and to build and read words using a.

To continue reading books by Kevin Henkes.

To review writing and counting from 1 to 20.

To compare numbers and use math vocabulary to describe same number, more and fewer, greater than and less than.

To put words into alphabetical order.

To listen to Beatrice Doesn’t Want to, How to Tell a Story, The Boy Who Loved Words.

To discuss things we do at school and to learn about our Daily Five Center routines.

To identify and use complete sentences in our speaking and writing.

To note details in a story, to use them in our pictures and writing.

To identify and discuss story elements in fiction stories.

To know a main character and to identify them using character traits.

To compare and contrast characters in stories

To make connections while reading.

To learn how to ask questions while reading to help us understand.

To learn about our school community and compare it to our town community.

Word study words from units 1-3 (short a sounds): at, am, cat, sat, bat, fat, as , has, can, an, man, had van, sad, to, bad, rag.

 

Homework:  Read at least 15 minutes each night in addition to homework sent home!

Monday: Complete a square on the reado board sent home today.

Tuesday:   study the  +0 flash cards sent home today. Practice these cards (each number plus 0 the number because it has no value.)  Our strategy is to know that 0 doesn’t change

Wednesday:  read a book of your choice, fluency folders have not yet been sent home.

Thursday: Practice spelling and writing short a words from unit 1-3.  You can do this on paper or on a whiteboard or chalkboard, sidewalk chalk.  You can use flash cards or starfall.com.  Whatever works for your family.   Word study words from units 1-3 (short a sounds): at, am, cat, sat, bat, fat, as , has, can, an, man, had van, sad, to, bad, rag.  These words are review from Kindergarten

Friday: We will do an assessment most Fridays (during class) using the word study words of the week. This week will be a review of units 1-3

Reading log will be sent home this week, log books read each night.

To review what we know about the alphabet and to put words into alphabetical order.

To identify letters as consonants and vowels

To listen to The War between the Consonants and the Vowels.

To write our names using upper case letters only for the first letter.

To identify how many vowels and consonants are in our names.

To discuss how we got our names.

To identify numbers 1-10.

To read and write the numbers 1-10 as numbers, words, and pictures.

To compare numbers using greater than and less than, and to understand the meaning of same.

To play compare with a partner.

To learn about the importance of being kind.

To read Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

Read each night and initial your child’s behavior calendar

Goals for the week:

To become familiar with our school and our school routines

To meet our classmates and to remember their names

To have fun getting used to our new surroundings.

To learn about point of view as we read First Day Jitters.

To write about how we felt on the first day of school.

To read some good books

To read books about names and to have fun with our names.

To learn about how to treat others with respect and filling buckets.

Homework :

Practice your lunch number if you are going to buy lunch.

Send in a summer reading list if you have one any day

Reminders:

Check the green homework folder every night and send every day!

Wear sneakers on gym day (Day 2)

Pack a healthy snack each day (tell your child not to eat it at lunch)

Send a note if there is ever a change in your child’s route home!!! And Make sure your child knows of change as well.
