Goals for the week:

To review all short vowel sounds.

To review sounds and write magic c letters.

To listen to The Itsy Bitsy Spider and The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle.

To become familiar with different combinations of the same number.

Goals for the week:

To continue working with comparing and combining numbers.

To create and use different types of graphs.

To practice addition and problem solving using addition.

To know our math facts for 0, 1.

To continue to practice words with short a and short i.

To know that C goes with a (cat) and k goes with I (kit).

To know to use ck at the end of a short vowel one syllable word.

To practice writing sentences using uppercase letters and punctuation.

To work independently in our centers and to work in reading groups.

To read and write words in the -at , an, am, as, ad, word families, as well as the –ig, -in, -it,

 To listen to When This Box Is Full.

To identify and put in order the months of the year.

To make a class birthday graph.

To identify character traits by studying  David from the No David series.

To identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story.

To continue some fun Apple activities!  We will read How to Make an Apple Pie and find where  different countries are on the globe.  This will continue our Social Studies unit on Communities and  finding Me on the Map.

We will continue to observe our Butterflies as they emerge from the chrysalis!

To continue to observe and study the life cycle of our mealworms

To write facts and opinions about Apples and Butterflies.

To identify four Seasons and write about the Fall.

Wednesday night: 100 things about me complete the next page.  Encourage children to use a topic sentence.  Then add at least one detail sentence.

Thursday: use spelling menu to study Word study words.  We did not assess last week due to apple activities there will be an assessment this Friday on unit 5/6.

 

 Request and Reminders:

Empty folders as much as possible each night.  Please make sure your child knows the month and day of his/her birthday for our class activities this week! You should also go over your address and phone number.

Goals for the week:

To continue to count and write 1-20.

To count forward and backward.

To order numbers.

To take our first mad minute for the plus 1 math facts!

To identify numbers using greater than and less than symbols.

To combine and compare numbers.

To identify more and fewer.

To listen to My Five Senses, The Seasons of an Apple Tree, Apples.

To identify a fact vs opinion.

To write facts about Apples and Johnny Appleseed.

To learn about Johnny Appleseed.

To have fun with apples, measuring, counting, sorting.

To continue our Science Units, Insects.

To observe our Caterpillars as they enter the Pupa stage.

To continue to practice words with short a and to introduce short i. 

To identify what makes up a complete sentence and to practice writing sentences.

To work independently in our Daily five centers.

To begin reading groups.

To read and write words in the –at, -am, -as,- an,- ag,- ad, word families.

Homework :

Please cover the (front and back)  cover of the writer’s notebook  with contact paper if possible. Send finished book on Monday.

Monday:  choose a square on the READO board to complete.

Tuesday:  study math facts all the + 1.

Wednesday:  100  Things about me Book, complete the first prompt.

Thursday:  choose any activity from the spelling menu to practice the words for this week.

Friday:  Send in an Apple for Apple Day activities!

If you wish to keep READO and spelling menus in your folders so they do not get misplaced that is fine.  

 Request and Reminders:

  I am happy with how the children are settling into our class routines and the full day of school!  Please speak to your child about the importance of listening.

Goals for the week:

To continue to count accurately and write 1-20.

To add and minus by 1.

To add fluently by 1 using the next door neighbor strategy.

To order numbers one through twenty.

To identify more and fewer.

To use and read a graph..

To learn more about the Constitution on Constitution day.

To begin to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly.

To continue our science unit (insects).

To identify rhyming words.

To make predictions about a story.

To continue to practice words with short a. 

To practice reading words in the –at and –am and -as word family.

To read and  work with unit 1-3 word study words.  (at, am, cat, sat, bat, fat, As, has, can, the, an, man, had, van, sad, to, bad, rag)

Homework :

Monday: Word Work:  practice reading and writing word study words unit 1-3. You can find a list of all units for this year if you would like to work ahead on harder words.  Go to my website under files and documents. 

You can also visit my portaportal for websites and games that reinforce our studies!

Tuesday: practice flash cards for all plus ones.

Wednesday: Back to school night

Thursday night:  We will be decorating the outside of  our writer’s notebooks on Friday in class.  Please send in pictures and decorations that will make the book special,(pictures that will inspire your child to write! Animals if they like animals, Barbie if they like Barbie, sports if they sports).  You can also send photographs of special people or places.  If possible please cover the book with contact paper over the weekend.  You may want to begin working on collecting pictures and purchasing contact paper earlier this week.

* Pack a healthy snack each day!!

*  Book orders have been placed.  Our code for online is GXF4L.

 

*First in math cards will be sent home on Wednesday at Back to school night.

   We had a great week last week and the children are doing well learning our routines.  This week we will begin to dive more into the books!   These goals are just for you to have a general idea what we are working on during the day.  We do much more than I have listed here during a school day. 

Goals for the week:

To continue to learn our new school routines.

To continue to make new friends in our class.

To review the short vowel a, and to build and read words using a.

To review writing and counting from 1 to20.

To put words into alphabetical order.

To listen to Beatrice Doesn’t Want to, Chrysanthemum, Tattle Tongue and Icky Alphabet.

To discuss things we do at school and to learn about our Daily Five Centers.

To identify and use complete sentences in our speaking and writing.

To note details in a story, to use them in our pictures and writing.

To identify and discuss story elements in fiction stories.

To know a main character and to identify them using character traits.

To compare and contrast characters in stories

To make connections while reading.

To learn how to ask questions while reading to help us understand.

To learn about our school community and compare it to our town community.

To begin to learn about insects in our science unit.

 

Word study words from units 1-3 (short a sounds): at, am, cat, sat, bat, fat, as , has, can, an, man, had van, sad, to, bad, rag.

 

Homework:  Read at least 15 minutes each night in addition to homework sent home!

Monday:  Get some rest!  We have a full week!

Tuesday:  Practice spelling and writing short a words from unit 1-3.  You can do this on paper or on a whiteboard or chalkboard, sidewalk chalk.  You can use flash cards or starfall.com.  Whatever works for your family.  This doesn’t have to be sent to school.   Word study words from units 1-3 (short a sounds): at, am, cat, sat, bat, fat, as , has, can, an, man, had van, sad, to, bad, rag.

Wednesday:  take all the +1 cards from your addition flash cards. Practice these cards (each number plus 1 such as 1+1, 2+1, 3+1, etc.

Thursday: review short a words and read with someone

Friday: We will do an assessment every Friday (during class) using the word study words of the week. This Friday will be a pre assessment to see where we will begin.

Requests and Reminders:

*Wear sneakers on gym days Tuesday and Thursday.

* Back to school Open house is on September 17, 2014

*please empty folders each night of contents on the left side L= leave at home, Right side R= return to school.  I realize it is the first couple weeks so this may not always be completely accurate but we are working on packing up skills.

* Please send in a snack each day, it is not provided.

Newsletter Week one!

 You should have gotten a copy of this newsletter in your child's folder yesterday.  I will be sending emails giving the link to the webpage and blog if you have not already visited to fill out the beginning of year survey.  Eventually this is where homework and information will be posted every Monday.  Please contact me through email with any questions or concerns.

Goals for the week:

To become familiar with our school and our school routines

To meet our classmates and to remember their names

To have fun getting used to our new surroundings

To learn about point of view as we read First Day Jitters.

To write about how we felt on the first day of school.

To read some good books

To read books about names and to have fun with our names.

To learn about how to treat others with respect and filling buckets.

Homework :


Tuesday night:  Tell someone who had First Day Jitters in our story today!  Go to bed early!

Wednesday night:  Tell someone about one of your new friends at school.

Thursday night:  complete name homework for Friday. Always write name with upper and lowercase letters.

Send in a summer reading list if you have one any day

Reminders:

Check the green homework folder every night and send every day!

Wear  sneakers on gym day (Tuesday and Thursday)

Pack a healthy  snack each day (tell your child not to eat it at lunch)

Send a note if there is ever a change in your child’s route home!!! And Make sure your child knows of change as well.
