Newsletter 10/27/14


Mrs. Besselman’s Bulletin                             Halloween Week

Goals for the week:
To review all short vowel sounds.
To continue to work with addition facts and tables.
To continue our new math unit we will be studying shapes and fractions.
To read and write words in the – it, -ig,- ack,- ick, word family.
To read and write words that have qu, x and y.
To have compare and contrast the Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly and the Old Lady who swallowed a Bat.
To read Halloween stories, the Big Pumpkin, the old lady who wasn’t afraid of anything, One Stormy Night.
To compare and contrast characters across stories.
To read fiction and nonfiction selections on the topic of Bats.
To identify fiction and nonfiction stories.
To continue to identify and write facts and opinions.
To compare and contrast bats and birds.
To continue to listen to stories about bats and bugs.
To compare  and contrast bats and birds.
To identify beginning, middle, and end of a story.
To identify cause and effect in a story.
To identify sequence in a story.
To retell a story.
To identify story elements.(character, setting, plot, main idea)
To know that f, l, s and z are doubled at the end of a short vowel one syllable word.
To read and write words that end in glide sounds ng, nk.
Word study words this week: Long, ring, pink, bank, sang, sing and the red word What
Word study words to know: am, at, cat, sat, bat, fat, as, has, can, an, man, had, van, sad, to, bad, rag, in, big, is, did, if, it, his, pack, said, sick, tack, back, kid, cab, of sack, pack, its, him, quit, six, fix, wax, Off, will, miss, fizz, pass, jazz, 
Red words to know: to, the, have, said, of, you
To continue to observe and learn about different types of insects.
To label and identify insect characteristics.
To identify the stages of complete metamorphosis.

Homework :
Monday night: Complete an activity from your READO game board.
Tuesday night: study math facts
Wednesday night: Write in your 100 things about me book
Thursday : study word study words to unit 10 (no assessment due to excitement of Halloween)
Friday:  Harvest Party today  (just children and volunteers please)
