Goals for the
week:
To review all short vowel sounds.
To use different methods of collecting and recording
data.
To sort by more than one attribute.
To identify solid shapes.
To read and write words with all the short vowels and to
begin looking at long vowels.
To identify and use descriptive words.
To retell and summarize a story.
To identify story structure.

To self edit our writing using our writer’s eye.
To listen and respond to The Little Red Hen.
To compare and contrast two stories.
To use and understand ordinal numbers.
To listen to our Book of the Week: The Little Yellow
Chicken .
To practice reading with fluency.
To learn more about Martin Luther King Jr.
To learn more about where we live in PA!
To learn more about sand, silt, and pebbles as we
experiment with our new science unit.
Homework :
Monday: Choose an
activity from your READO and/or WRITE boards.
Tuesday: practice math facts (is your child using what they know about
addition to do subtraction?) Practice
fact families!!
Wednesday: Write in your 100 things about me book.
Thursday: study
all word study words. Ask your child
about how to split elephant words. Use spelling menu.
Request and
Reminders:
* Empty
folders as much as possible each night.
Read every night!
*With less than 20 days
till the 100th day of school I am expecting more from the children.
Second grade is right around the corner!
If your child is not completing work in class I will send home to be
completed for homework. If it is not
completed at home they will complete during recess the following day.
*Neatness is also expected. Please encourage this in homework as well.
Please ask your child what supplies they need
. I know many seem to need pencils and
glue.
